Jess and Ryan are Wed

Music fills their lives and helps them to express what words cannot. It is a tie that binds them and united them on their wedding day.  Jess and Ryan planned a wedding that was extremely unique with an emphasis on music and fun!  They successfully created a real music-festival-feel that allowed guests to keep moving and experiencing new things throughout the entire day.  The weather threatened to crash rain upon us at any moment.  The skies remained menacing throughout the day and, thankfully, spared us throughout a beautiful ceremony complete with meditation and Oms.  Once evening came the rain began and by this time, no one seemed to care.

Brace yourself internet… this post is going to be… a humdinger.  Special thanks to the crew at Vinewood Weddings and Events for putting on a gorgeous wedding for these two!

A sweet little night portrait in the rain…because I thought it would be fun to start at the end.

The stunning florals were created by Southern Stems.

This photo makes me happy for three reasons… puppy dogs, my husband and our Groom’s reaction.

Canadian Goose Photo-Bomb

These are our clients and they are fun.

This image may be my favorite of them all.

Sometimes I like to let the sun fill up my frame for yummy golden light.

Jess-you. are. beautiful.

Is this glove holder cool or what?!

I don’t normally post family images on the blog but this just melts my heart…

And this…

Hi-our clients are way cool.

Super cool

I love this moment with Jess and her Dad

Ryan preparing right before the ceremony.  Both Jess and Ryan sang songs to each other composed especially for this day.

Mommie hands are the prettiest.

The style of dress for guests was vintage… era not important… just vintage.  This girls made me want a cool hat or fascinator.

Stones were placed under every chair. Guests held them and blessed them. They were then placed in a vessel the bride and groom will display in their home.

Flower girl blessings are probably the sweetest.

This is part of the magic that is Sean behind the lens.

I keep trying to think of something cooler than personalized Mad Libs at a wedding…. I got nothing.

Sweet personal touches were everywhere.

Hi guy on bench… I thought you looked pretty cool.

And we close this blog post with PhotoBooth fun!  Special thanks to Laura Barnes for running it for us!

Snail Mail

Remember how much fun it was to check the mail?  I lived on a farm growing up with a mile long dirt driveway.  No… seriously it was a mile long.  Our mailbox was about a quarter mile from the house as this is where government maintained roads stopped… if that tells you anything.  We lived in relative seclusion with our only neighbor being quite out of earshot.  HAHA who says “earshot”?  THIS girl apparently.  In all honesty it is a good measurement tool… if we were out of “earshot” as kids that meant we were to far away from the house.  When the “mail ran”, around 3 in the afternoon, we could see the dust being kicked up by our post-person in a bronco going entirely to fast down our dirt and gravel road.  I can remember the feeling of excitement walking up that stretch of road to retrieve the mail.  There would usually be bills of course and sometimes there were cards from Grandma with her perfect penmanship giving her away on the front of the envelope.  It was always exciting to read what she wrote in such a loving way…that-and I always admired her cursive as mine is atrocious.  It truly is an art only held on to by fancy people and calligraphers.  I used to hold the paper between my fingers and think about her hands. I could envision her sitting in her armchair with novels written by Billy Graham on the table beside her.  I could see her sitting there writing in perfect prose something sweet that ended with Love Grandma. Oh how I miss the hand-written letter.  It is so much more personal and beautiful than email.

In our digital age handwritten prose is close to extinction along with receiving a letter or invitation in the mail. Weddings seem to be the last known respite for this art.  We as photographers never tire of receiving wedding invites from our clients.  This is cool for two reasons: 1) We get the opportunity to photograph this for the couple prior to their wedding. 2) It gives us a sense of their personalities and wedding style.  3)… I know I said two but I just thought of a third… It makes us feel special.

Check out this gorgeous wedding invitation suite from our couple Janna and Kyle.

Give and Take

I know many of us have read the “Do it Anyway” poem/prayer attributed to Mother Teresa. She was a fascinating woman who led a life that is…honestly, unfathomable to me.  I like my gadgets and my netflix, I love my cozy house and my heated car seats.  I like taking walks with my sweet puppy dog and pouring myself a nice glass of wine whilst catching up on Project Runway.   I can’t imagine the discipline she must have had.  When troubling times come my way I try to remember her words and carry on doing me.  After all life is a funny game of give and take.

People are often unreasonable,
illogical and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind,
people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful,
you will win some false friends and true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you;
Be honest anyway.

What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis,
it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

~Mother Teresa

A Tasting at Foxhall

The drive up reminded me of Virginia-it made me miss home… big time.  The winding road is lined with fencing and horses graze alongside it.  I got to park on the grass…now that is down home stuff.  I walked up the stone stairs and passed by the welcome center.  The smell of home cooking wafted by and I knew I was getting close.  I walked in to be greeted by the smiling faces behind Simply Catering, Blooming Flour Bakery and Southern Flair.  I thought to myself as I gave them each a squeeze, “I love my job and the people I get to work with”.   Here are a few images from the Foxhall tasting.
